I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried. Here's hoping Pete drilled some sense into the team since Montreal.

I think Matteau knows and Lou knows already that Matteau is going back to the Q. Lou wanted him to 'taste' NHL action to aid in his development. This'll open up a roster spot for Butler, and that'll be until Henrique returns.

I also see a move that'll see a defenseman going somewhere after Matteau gets sent down so that Larsson can play. One of the six is being showcased. Maybe the Devils send Tallinder and a pick (like a 4th) for a lower pick (6th).

Larsson's going to be playing in some way or other, and tonight's the last night I think he stays a healthy scratch.

why on earth would the devils give up a top 6 dman AND pick, for a LATER pick that makes 0 sense at all

It pretty much does. Hey, if you can pull the curtain over someone's eyes and they take him on, even better for you. But let's be realistic. Look back when the Devils had to trade Malakov to the Sharks and give away their first round pick in order to do it. Tallinder's not pushing their salary cap, no, but Fayne, Salvador, Volchenkov and Greene are a rock solid core. It's either trade Zidlicky (which I doubt they'll do as they don't really have another PP d-man other than Larsson) or trade Tallinder and the 3.375M/y he commands over the next two years and hope someone thinks he has value.

Or you could send Larsson back to the minors.

Let's put my awesome spreadsheets aside and ask what you would do in order to fit Larsson into the line-up. And specifically name the player you're trading Tallinder for if you plan on moving him.

He's been a primary player in Albany for the last few years, captain I think? Not a big player but has some wheels. Not as small as Tedenby. 30 years old so he has experience. Played with Josefson when he was down there during the lockout. I've been waiting for Anderson to get called up for years.. but settled with the fact that maybe he's just another career AHLer. Hopefully this works out.. we're so thin up front. I'd like to see Matteau-Josefson-Anderson. If Matteau gets dropped from the top line. They should keep him there throughout the game.. give the kid a long look.. unless he's really a liability. Henrique can't come back soon enough, whether he plays wing or center.
It's only a matter of time before one of our D get hurt.. pulled groin or something. Having 8 starters is a luxury, and it'll come in handy eventually.
Hope Hedberg has a strong game.. Marty's been good so far, hope he can be just as stout.

If tallinder can only attract negative value then keep him and put Larsson in the AHL. It doesn't make sense to deal from our one position of strength for negative value only to fit in a player who may not be better than Tallinder.

Which is a sensible response. At least until the Devils sustain an injury. But we'll see.

exactly. I love the starting 6 we have right now, including Tallinder. I always liked him, but his out of nowhere playoff performance was the icing on the cake. He's been strong this year too. Our pairs have chemistry and each player plays their role perfectly. Zidlicky needs to wake up sometimes, but outside of him we're solid. I didn't want to resign Fayne, but him and Greene have been ok. Maybe Larsson should go down.. but I know we'll get an injury and he should come in and play well.

If we do move a D man and say another gets hurt during the year you think Urbom gets the call up? I hear he pretty close to being ready for the NHL.

Most likely. He has the most experience and is probably the closest to being ready.

I don't want this situation to happen. Urbom played in the last game of the 2010-11 season and looked ok. . but I don't think its good to take a dman out of his flow in the AHL for a quick stink in the NHL, most of which as a healthy scratch. Seems like it could do more harm than good.

Completely forgot about him. Guys were are LOADED with talent on D. This is awesome. The prediciment, if you can even call it that, is really a blessing IMO. We literally have eight defenseman who can play in the NHL, and a ninth waiting in the healm. Really impressed with how well we've handled them all too.

It seems as though we always do a great job with developing Dmen. Getting better with developing Forwards as well. Look at what Zajac, Parise, Henrique, Josefson, and Clarkson have turned into. All in the past... what, 5 years?

I really hope Lou trades a Dman and Forward for scoring depth. Tallinder? My second choice would be Greene. I just think he's a little more replacable than a guy like Zid due to his PP/offensive talent. Fayne isn't going anywhere he just got a raise. Volchenkov will be nearly impossible to trade with that contract. Salvador is our captain.

Good god, get JJ off the 4th line with Barch and Anderson before it stunts his development. Bump him up to play with Bernier, who at least has some offensive ability. Gio has played great with that Carter and Bernier line, but he also played with Anderson for years, and it is more important to keep JJ's development on track in the long run than to benefit from Gio's preferred line.

Shocked that Anderson was called up but I'm not disappointed. I watched probably about 8 or 9 Albany games this season, and he's a pretty good player.

In Albany, he's playing top line minutes and in all situations. He's a reliable all-around player with a nice shot. He's certainly a much more reliable option than putting Tedenby out there, as his game is well-rounded. At the same time, at 30 years old, I hope a pro players game is well-rounded.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but Josefson and Anderson were frequently paired together in Albany, with some success, usually with Pesonen on the other wing. He could be a reliable bottom six guy like Sestito was for us, and serve as a stopgap until we get Henrique or add another forward, but he has a bit more offense to his game.
